Harvey AI launched 500 legal AI agents and a customizable Agent Builder tool for law firms.

Why it matters: Lawyers gain direct tools to automate routine legal tasks and customize AI workflows, potentially saving time and refocusing on higher-value work.

  • Harvey released 500+ pre-built legal AI agents for areas like M&A, IP, and investigations.
  • The Agent Builder lets legal teams customize agents or build new ones for specific processes.
  • Major law firms including Gowling WLG, Willkie Farr & Gallagher, and Clayton Utz co-developed agents.
  • The new tools are in early access with broader rollout expected soon.

Harvey AI has launched an upgraded legal tech platform featuring over 500 pre-built, legal-focused AI agents—software tools designed to automate common legal tasks across specialties such as M&A, intellectual property, labor, and white-collar investigations.

  • The agents were co-developed with prominent law firms including Gowling WLG, Willkie Farr & Gallagher, Clayton Utz, Mallesons, and Hengeler Mueller, integrating practical feedback from practicing lawyers.
  • The new Agent Builder enables legal professionals to create or customize these agents to reflect firm-specific workflows or tap into internal knowledge bases. Legal AI agents in this context are application-specific tools designed to conduct defined types of legal work, unlike broader chat-based AI.
  • Agents generate deliverables in Word, PowerPoint, and Excel formats, aiming to integrate with client workflows and streamline outputs from case intake to document creation.

Winston Weinberg, Harvey CEO, described this as a shift from AI assistants to what he terms 'legal agents'—AI tools capable of carrying out defined legal tasks, not just answering questions. Anique Drumright, Chief Product Officer, emphasized, "Our agents aren't designed by prompt engineers. They're designed by lawyers who've done the work these agents handle."

So far, 100,000+ lawyers in 1,500 organizations have onboarded onto Harvey. Legal teams have already built more than 25,000 custom agents tailored to their needs.

Not all industry observers have weighed in yet on the effectiveness or ROI of this approach. However, law firm leaders say these agent-based workflows enable lawyers to spend more time on strategy and less on manual document production. "Agents are poised to enhance how our lawyers work and create value," noted Al Hounsell of Gowling WLG. Pierre Zickert from Hengeler Mueller said, "As agents become more capable of handling sophisticated legal work, they open the door for lawyers to focus less on manual output and more on delivering better solutions."

Full rollout and pricing have not been announced. The platform remains in early access.

By the numbers:

  • 500+ — Pre-built legal AI agents launched by Harvey
  • 100,000+ — Lawyers using Harvey worldwide
  • 25,000+ — Custom legal agents built by teams to date

Yes, but: Independent assessments of agent effectiveness and ROI are not yet available.

What's next: Harvey plans a broader public rollout of the agents and Agent Builder in the coming months; more details on availability and pricing to follow.
